 Culture as an explanation of ice berg:


Artifacts are the physical things that are found that have particular symbolism for culture in an organization.

Artifacts within the Hatton National Bank:


-Physical Structure/Layout                    -Dress Code
-Events                                                   -Colours
-Organizational Language                      -Symbols
-Inter Relationship
-Slogans
-Celebrations

Physical Structure:

  • Managers has a single Cubical
  • All the Branches have open cashiers, normally cashiers are depend on the customers in the relevant areas
  • Every branch has separate sections for their main functions such as loan section, pawning section,recovery section, personal banking section.

Inter-Relationship:
  • Friendly working environment
  • They have direct relationship with all levels of customers
  • They provide their services to their customers with the utmost dedications & a friendly smile.
Organizational Language:
  • Combination of Sri-Lankan and Western Languages are used.
  • Mostly they are English language within the organization
  • They communicate with their customers in a friendly manner

It is important to consider the languages we use as we hire, work with our team, and sell to our clients in an agency. Languages power to focus is the reason why it is important to choose carefully the languages we use and to make those choices reinforce the aspects of an organizations culture that we want to encourage and emphasize.

Another Example of the power of language comes up when we describe the economic situations of a country. If we describe it as "stalled", we will tend to think of short term solutions that "jump-start" the economy, but if we talk about an "ailing" economy we will tend to think of long term solutions that heal the economic situations.

As we consider the languages we use it is important to understand how it will shape people perception of the organisational culture and impact the actions they will take. The language we use even shape our own perceptions and actions. Leaders must review the language they use in hiring to look for problematic or biased language.


Colours:
  • We use blue and Yellow as our theme color.
  • Branches are also decorated using the same above mentioned color.
  • So that customers can easily identify the bank because of the unique color.

Dress Code:
  • They have their own dress code like uniform 
When you are handling other peoples money, you need to present yourself as capable and professional. How you dress conveys your commitment to professionalism, attention to detail and concern for your clients. According to Burleson Consulting, not dressing appropriately for the banking industry may give customers the impression that you don't care about their perception on their money. 

In the banking industry, it is very important to dress professionally to keep the appearances and so you don't offput any customers. Wearing items such as ripped jeans and revealing clothes come across as very unprofessional and reflects poorly on the business.

Conclusion:

  • In any Organizational culture the things we can touch, see and hear are called artifacts.
  • They distinguish the organization from those of others
  • They provide uniqueness to the organization
  • In HNB we have identified such artifacts & they are capable enough to distinguish the bank from those of other bank & Organization.
